Why we invested in Gomboc AI

Fixing cloud security at its core

By Roger Thornton, Co-Founder & General Partner

Today, we’re thrilled to announce our investment in Gomboc AI, a company that’s transforming how organizations secure their cloud environments with deterministic AI.

When I first met Gomboc AI’s co-founder and CEO, Ian Amit, it was clear he wasn’t just another entrepreneur with an idea – he was a battle-tested CISO who had lived the pain he set out to solve. Ian spent years drowning in security alerts, chasing misconfigurations, and dealing with the inefficiencies of cloud security operations. Instead of accepting the status quo, he decided to build something better. At Ballistic, that’s the kind of founder we love to back.

The Security Industry’s Backlog Problem

Security teams today face an overwhelming backlog of alerts and misconfiguration tickets. Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) tools and other scanners are good at identifying issues but fall short when resolving them. This leaves security teams in an endless loop of identifying problems without fixing them – frustrating CISOs, burdening DevOps teams, and slowing business innovation.

Gomboc AI eliminates this inefficiency. Rather than simply flagging security misconfigurations, it automatically and deterministically fixes them. That’s a fundamental shift in how cloud security is handled.

The Solution: Deterministic AI

AI is a hot topic in cybersecurity, but not all AI is created equal. Many solutions today rely on generative AI or static templates, which can introduce unpredictability and require extensive oversight. (After all, if you ask the same question to a GenAI model more than once, you’ll get a different answer every time.) Gomboc AI, on the other hand, leverages deterministic AI – an approach that ensures every fix is precise, repeatable, and fully aligned with an organization’s policies.

By integrating directly into cloud infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Gomboc AI enables security teams to enforce secure configurations at scale, eliminating the need for manual ticketing and remediation cycles. This means security strengthens, DevOps stays agile, and businesses move faster without compromise.

Backing a Visionary Team

Ian Amit and his co-founder, Matthew Sweeney, have built something special. Their deep security expertise, combined with an engineer’s mindset for automation and efficiency, has led to a platform that doesn’t just improve cloud security; it redefines how security and DevOps work together.

At Ballistic, we’re honored to lead Gomboc AI’s latest investment with continued backing from our friends at Hetz Ventures and Glilot Capital Partners. We believe Gomboc AI’s approach will fundamentally reshape cloud security operations, and we’re excited to help them scale their impact across the industry.
