While the number of cybersecurity companies has tripled in the last three years, entrepreneurs are dealing with adversaries whose tools and tactics are constantly changing. They need more than money from an industry that has become too complex for general investors who simply dabble in it. Founders need help from operators who understand the nuances that face a new security start-up, and the VC support that puts them on the right trajectory.
Ballistic Ventures is a VC firm dedicated to funding and incubating innovations in cybersecurity and nothing else. We believe that the most important action we can take today is to fuel the ideas of the world’s greatest cybersecurity entrepreneurs with our collective experience, network, and passion.

Backstory
Jake has a unique combination of professional operating and investing experience that he uses to support founders as they grow their businesses. Previously, as the sole founder of Stone Bridge Ventures, 12 of his early-stage investments have grown to become unicorn companies. Prior to Stone Bridge, he was President of TenX/Auction where he wrote the business plan for a real estate focused transactional online marketplace and executed that business plan by building every functional area. Jake had 800 people in his reporting org and grew the online marketplace to be the leading platform with billions in transactions. The company was ultimately acquired for $1.6B. Jake started his tenure in venture capital as a member of the team that launched Lightspeed Venture Partners in 2000 and became a key Managing Director helping drive the firm’s early growth over an 11 year tenure. Prior to Lightspeed, he was an early product lead for the team at Cisco Systems that commercialized broadband technology. Jake helped that group grow from startup to a $1B revenue run rate in 2 years and drove a number of important cybersecurity focused innovations into his products. Jake holds an SB in Electrical Engineering and an M.Eng in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT. At MIT, he was awarded the Karly Taylor Compton Prize, the highest honor given to an MIT student. He is a long serving board member of the MIT Club of Northern California, one of the largest and most active MIT alumni clubs in the world. In 2009, Jake was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
